wedding colors for 20142014 has been shaping up to be a pretty fun wedding year: Kim and Kanye, Britney Spears’ little sister, Penny from The Big Bang Theory and some of ’em we loved, some not so much, but either way it’s got us thinking about wedding colors for 2014.

This year’s wedding color trends are (mostly) muted versions of brash colors. Instead of a bright purple, we have rich-feeling faded plum. Instead of navy we have something closer to denim. Even gold – a hot trend for yet another year – isn’t in your face, it’s delicate and gentle on the eyes.

What color schemes have you been dreaming of? Still on the hunt for the perfect combo for your big day? Some colors are classic and will look good in your wedding album for years to come. Others, not so much. Whether you want something that’s totally on trend or traditional and timeless, see if any of these 2014 wedding color trends inspire you.

Wedding Colors for 2014: Which is Your Fave? (Ours is last.)

#1) All Things Aqua (seriously, it goes with everything) – Aqua and red is still going strong from 2013 and I don’t think I am ever going to get tired of this, my favorite of all wedding colors for 2014. It’s fun and quirky and exciting and works perfectly for summer weddings. If you are an aqua fan, it’s to die for! (See our fave: Niki and James’ aqua and red wedding.)

Of course, not everyone loves the boldness of aqua and red. But, surprisingly, aqua (or turquoise) actually pairs really well with a whole bunch of other colors: yellow for a fun spring wedding, grey or silver for a more posh look, brown for a retro vibe… so fun! Or what about this stunning combo of aqua, purple, and green:

#2) Radiant Orchid Pantone – The 2014 Pantone Color of the Year is Radiant Orchid, which is a gorgeous, muted, smoky purple color. (Last year was emerald.) Incorporate the radiant orchid pantone in your wedding color theme in big or little ways, from bridesmaid dresses to cake accents to flowers. Check out these pretty examples, all courtesy of Dessy:

We personally are a little over seeing chocolate (the color, not the food of course!) in the wedding colors for 2014 top 5, just because we see it fairly often… but if it works for you, go for it! It’s a rich color that won’t steer you wrong if you love it.

#4) Gold – This is one of the most timeless 2014 wedding color trends because it’s glitzy without dating itself too much. Years later when you look through your wedding photo album, you won’t regret gold as a choice. What’s better than warm, sparkly gold? Get inspired:

#5) Navy and Lemon (with a twist) – Like the radiant orchid pantone, this year’s wedding colors of 2014 of navy and lemon are faded, not bright and bold. Think of it as a reminder of navy and yellow, like something you might see in a faded photograph. The muted tones are wistful and romantic, which helps set a sweet tone for your big day. Here is what we’re talking about:
