Online RegistryThere are a lot of reviews out there for online registry MyRegistry.com – but they’re from a long time ago, when an online bridal registry was way less common than it is now.

Today, you can find online bridal registry sites all over the Internet. And MyRegistry is certainly one of the most popular, but is it really worth your time? After all, your wedding registry is a pretty big deal!

Online gift registries have become more and more popular with brides in recent years. Why? Well, traditional wedding registries aren’t as useful as they once were. Couples often already have the stuff you would typically register for, so they want to think a little outside the box with an online registry. Also, online gift registries make life a lot easier for everyone IF they allow you to add gifts from any store. This saves you the hassle of having to start (and keep track of) multiple registries at multiple places.

Online Registry Review: MyRegistry

Pro: My Registry lets you add gifts from anywhere.
Instead of limiting yourself to a few stores, MyRegistry lets you add gifts from anywhere – even offline stores. All of your gifts are easy to see on your online registry, which guests can peruse by item category or just browse around. For online stores, you can add gifts with just a click of a button. For offline stores, you can add items yourself. Easy-peasy!

Pro: It’s the easiest of the online gift registries for you AND your guests to use.
Out of all the online gift registries, MyRegistry is the most intuitive, both to set up and to purchase from. Your wedding guests do not have to be rocket scientists to be able to use your registry and neither do you. Also, online shopping is way easier for all concerned and hugely popular these days… it’s ideal for guests who are traveling or if you’re having a destination wedding because gifts can be shipped right to your house instead of being carted around.

Pro: You can ask for cash.
As an online bridal registry, MyRegistry is cool because it lets you ask for cash, but in a way that doesn’t offend. Online, you can ask for things like gift cards or even just cash, but you label it as going towards something: your honeymoon, a down payment on your first house, etc. Guests can contribute to these types of gifts and feel good knowing that their cash is going towards something you really need – and you get to collect the money and help make your life as newlyweds that much smoother.

Add items from any website on the internet onto one universal gift registry

Pro: Guests can pitch in for group gifts.
So, you want a new living room set? A new mattress? These are expensive gifts that go way beyond the average wedding gift price tag – but one of the biggest perks of MyRegistry is that it allows guests to contribute a portion of your pricier gifts, rather than just having to go the “all or nothing” route. You are far more likely to get these items this way, as opposed to crossing your fingers that someone wants to drop several hundred (or thousand) dollars on your wedding gift all by themselves.

Pro: You can personalize it.
Make your MyRegistry site oh-so-cute by including photos and a personal message. Include your engagement story, a pic of the ring, or just the two of you together and smiling. Thank people in advance for joining you on your big day in your personal site message and invite them to contact you with any questions.

Overall Online Bridal Registry MyRegistry Review: Thumbs Up!

If there was any “con” about using MyRegistry, it’s probably that your one or two totally non-computer-literate guests might balk – but you shouldn’t let that stop you because it will be easier (and more fun!) for you and for virtually all of your guests.

MyRegistry.com is also totally free to use, both for you AND your guests, so definitely give it a try.

Strong warning against using MyRegistry.com. We have had so many issues with it: the syncing of store registries doesn’t always work; the option to turn off asking your guests to sign your “guestbook” upon visiting doesn’t work; our registry wasn’t searchable on Google for months; our guests cannot view gifts according to categories. It’s a great idea, but they have a lot of glitches to work out. It’s been more of a headache than it’s worth.

Another issue I am having with MyRegistry (as of December 2013) is the manual sort feature for listing gifts which is one of the reasons I chose MyRegistry. It doesn’t work at all. I contacted support, they said they are aware it doesn’t work and working on the issue and have no idea when it will be fixed. But they leave the non-working feature up so when you try to reorder things it just creates chaos.

I’m not impressed. I placed an order on 7/22. It’s now 7/31 and I haven’t received shipping information yet. I contacted customer service on Monday (7/29), and they assured me that I’d have information by today (Wednesday 7/31) the latest. This hasn’t happened, so I contacted them again. I’m guessing by the 201 number that this is based out of New Jersey. Sales dept is closed for the day. This present is for my bf whose birthday is tomorrow 🙁

  4. Sam says:

MyRegistry.com is pretty much awful. It’s a great service in theory, but gifts disappear, reappear, and reorder themselves without warning or explanation. I spent time working with user support — they were nice, but not really helpful. I wouldn’t recommend it for anything.

Although myregistry.com advertises an option to allow for an internet-searchable registry, this doesn’t work. We’ve been talking with customer support for over two months about this, since so many people just want to Google your names and see where you’re registered. It’s inconvenient, but more than that, they say it’s a thing you can do, and apparently that’s not the case.

Do NOT use the honeymoon fund registry with paypal because it will cost the gift giver a fee and it will cost you 3% of the amount they send you. If the person sending you the cash is your unwitting boss, you might have to pay payroll tax on both the money you received AND potentially the 3% paypal took off the top. Using good old fashioned checks is way better IMO.

I registered here and Crate & Barrel…90% of guests got us C&B although we put more stuff on myregistry.com.

This website, my registry.com is terrible. I was trying to buy multiple items for a couple registered through them. The website has no link with the various stores to communicate the purchases and notify the bride and groom. You as the buyer have to do that manually! I was asked to send a message to the bride and groom and add the order number for each of the gifts I purchased. Ridiculous! I had no time to do that. I purchased the gifts and done. Great inconvenience.

    1. Hi Susan! Thanks for your comments! I do recall there being a popup window at the end of your transaction asking you to mark that you had purchased the item. You’re right; it would be nice if there were a way for MyRegistry.com to update that automatically for you, but I guess it doesn’t work because MyRegistry is one site and the store sites are separate.

  8. Dana says:

MyRegistry.com is horrible. They will switch out items you put on your registry with different stores – to maximize their own profit. They don’t care about what you want at all. Their user interface is also awful, and my overall experience with them was not good.

    1. Hi Dana! Thanks for your comment – I had totally forgotten about how myregistry would swap out items. That did actually happen to us as well, but I just had to send an email to customer service and they switched it back and told me they had set my account so that wouldn’t happen again. I agree that’s annoying! My guests loved it, though.
